80s TV Star of ‘WKRP in Cincinnati,’ Dies at 79

Loni Anderson, beloved for her role as the glamorous receptionist Jennifer Marlowe on WKRP in Cincinnati, died Sunday in a Los Angeles hospital after a prolonged illness, just days before turning 80, according to her publicist Cheryl J. Kagan.

Born August 5, 1945, in Saint Paul, Minnesota, Anderson began her acting career in the 1970s with appearances on shows like S.W.A.T., The Love Boat, and Fantasy Island. Her big break came in 1978 with WKRP in Cincinnati, where her portrayal of a smart, self-assured woman challenged stereotypes and earned Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.

The hit sitcom followed quirky staff at a struggling radio station and became known for its humor and social commentary. Anderson’s career extended well beyond WKRP, with roles in shows like Partners in Crime and Nurses, and movies like Stroker Ace alongside ex-husband Burt Reynolds.

Later, she became an advocate for COPD awareness and authored the memoir My Life in High Heels. Anderson is remembered for her talent, charm, and resilience both on and off screen.
