Oprah Winfrey was set to appear on CBS Mornings to reveal her latest book club pick, but a stomach virus kept her away. Over the weekend, best friend Gayle King explained her absence, sharing that Winfrey became dehydrated and required IV fluids on her doctor’s advice.
“I couldn’t keep enough water down,” Winfrey said in a video call on King’s Instagram, reassuring fans that she’s now recovering and feeling stronger each day. King noted Winfrey “will be OK,” joking she hoped Oprah wouldn’t mind her sharing the detail.
The two have long praised their close friendship, calling each other honest and supportive in a joint New York Times interview in January. Around that time, Winfrey—now 70—shared an Instagram video of herself running on the beach, celebrating good health as the greatest gift and thanking fans for birthday wishes.
