Actor Terence Stamp, who starred as Superman villain, dies aged 87

Terence Stamp, the acclaimed English actor best known as General Zod in the original Superman films, has died at 87. His family confirmed he passed away Sunday morning, leaving behind a remarkable six-decade career in film and writing.

Stamp’s debut in Billy Budd (1962) earned him an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe, launching a career highlighted by roles in The Collector, Far From the Madding Crowd, Valkyrie and The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert. He gained fame as a charismatic villain and style icon of the 1960s, known for high-profile romances with Julie Christie and Jean Shrimpton.

Bafta praised his legacy, noting his two nominations, while co-star Sarah Douglas called him “beyond gorgeous and talented.” Remembered for both his artistry and striking presence, Stamp leaves a body of work that will inspire for generations.
