Obama Under Fire Over Reaction to Charlie Kirk’s Assassination

A heated dispute erupted in the U.S. House over responsibility for Charlie Kirk’s death, highlighting deep partisan divisions. Former President Barack Obama stated he “doesn’t know” the motive behind Kirk’s killer, prompting sharp criticism from Republicans. “We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy,” Obama wrote on X.

OutKick founder Clay Travis condemned Obama, accusing him of fostering a climate of instability by labeling Trump and his supporters as Nazis and fascists for years. Travis argued that such rhetoric encourages violence, pointing to Kirk’s murder as an example. He referenced the 2016 private conversation in which Obama called Trump a “fascist” and Clinton’s agreement to prevent a “fascist” presidency.

Travis also cited the arrest of Ryan Wesley Routh, who attempted to assassinate Trump, claiming he equated Trump with Hitler. Travis asserted that left-wing violence is spiraling out of control and that Kirk tragically became a victim of this ongoing hostility.
