He starred in classics such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, and All the President’s Men. His directorial debut, Ordinary People, won the Academy Award for Best Director. Beyond acting and directing, Redford was a passionate advocate for independent cinema. In 1981, he founded the Sundance Institute and Film Festival, providing a platform for emerging filmmakers and shaping the future of independent film.

Known for his environmental activism, Redford was also a strong voice in political and social issues. He received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016 for his contributions to the arts and his advocacy for the environment.

Redford is survived by his wife, Sibylle Szaggars, his daughters Shauna and Amy, and seven grandchildren. His passing marks the end of an era in American cinema, leaving behind a legacy of storytelling, activism, and a commitment to independent voices in film.
