Charlie Kirk Murder Suspect Says Just Three Words In First Court Appearance

Tyler Robinson, 22, appeared virtually on September 16, 2025, from the Utah County Jail, facing charges in the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. During the hearing, Robinson, wearing a suicide-prevention vest, remained mostly silent, only responding affirmatively when the judge asked him to state his name.

Judge Tony Graf informed him of the charges: aggravated murder, illegal discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, witness tampering, and committing violence in the presence of a minor. Prosecutors announced they intend to seek the death penalty, citing aggravating factors such as Kirk being targeted for his political beliefs and the presence of children during the attack.

Court documents reveal Robinson allegedly confessed to the crime in text messages to his roommate, stating he had “enough of his hate” and that “some hates cannot be negotiated.” Investigators also found that Robinson had planned the attack for over a week and left a note in his apartment detailing his intent to kill Kirk.

His next court appearance is scheduled for September 29, 2025.
