Former President Donald Trump reignited his feud with Senator Adam Schiff (D-CA), accusing him of mortgage fraud linked to a Maryland home Schiff has owned since 2009. In a Truth Social post, Trump labeled Schiff a “scam artist,” alleging he falsely claimed the property as his primary residence to obtain better loan terms. Trump said the “fraud” began with a 2009 refinance and continued until 2020, when the home was reclassified.
Schiff, who gained prominence during Trump’s first impeachment, has denied the allegations, calling them “baseless” and politically motivated. Legal experts note that owning multiple homes and shifting primary residence status isn’t automatically fraud without clear evidence of intentional deception.
The accusations, which have not been backed by public documents or investigations, come as Trump seeks to undermine one of his fiercest critics ahead of the 2026 elections. Supporters view the claim as exposing corruption, while critics see it as another attempt to weaponize personal finances for political gain.
