New York City narrowly avoided a devastating tragedy after law enforcement, led by FBI Director Kash Patel and security expert Dan Bongino, stopped a massive bombing plot in time.
According to federal prosecutors, 55-year-old Michael Gann had begun placing improvised explosive devices (IEDs) throughout the city, including one found on the Williamsburg Bridge subway tracks and others hidden on SoHo rooftops beside shotgun shells. Authorities intercepted Gann on June 5, discovering an active explosive on him shortly after he posted a chilling message online: “Who wants me to go out to play like no tomorrow?”

Thanks to Patel’s counterterrorism task force and swift coordination with the NYPD, the plot was dismantled before anyone was harmed. U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton described the case as a “prevented tragedy.” Gann now faces multiple felony charges, including attempted destruction with explosives, and could face over 40 years in prison if convicted.
