I wanted to surprise my husband Tom for his 40th birthday, even though he’s never been a “party guy.” Two days before, I told him I was visiting my sister, but instead, I stayed at my friend Karen’s house to organize a surprise. I invited his parents, brother, best friend, and colleagues, and spent hours decorating our house with balloons, banners, food, and drinks. By 5:30 p.m., everything looked perfect, and guests hid in the kitchen, ready for his arrival.
When the door opened, a young couple appeared, shocked, carrying keys and a suitcase. Confused, I asked what was happening. It turned out Tom had listed our house on Airbnb while I pretended to be away. I called him, and he explained he just wanted to save for a trip. Fifteen minutes later, he returned, embarrassed. Surprisingly, the tension melted into laughter, and we all ended up celebrating together — even the Airbnb guests. It became the most unforgettable birthday ever.
