Signs of pancreatic cancer you should never ignore

The pancreas is a large gland located in the upper part of your abdomen, just behind the stomach, and plays a crucial role in producing digestive juices and hormones that regulate blood sugar and digestion.

Pancreatic cancer occurs when abnormal cells begin to grow uncontrollably within this gland. It is the tenth most common cancer in the UK, and unfortunately, it is often diagnosed at a late stage. This is largely because early pancreatic cancer usually produces no noticeable symptoms, making early detection extremely difficult.

When symptoms do appear, they tend to emerge only after the cancer has progressed, and even then, they can be subtle, vague, or easily mistaken for other, less serious conditions. Common signs may include unexplained weight loss, abdominal or back pain, jaundice, and digestive issues.

Because of its stealthy nature, pancreatic cancer is particularly dangerous, highlighting the importance of medical attention for persistent or unusual symptoms, especially in individuals at higher risk due to age, family history, or lifestyle factors.
