At 3 a.m., I woke up abruptly when I heard my daughter’s bedroom door creak open. My heart raced as I sat up, straining to hear what she might be doing at such an hour. Moments earlier, the house had been silent and still. I called out softly, “Sweetheart?” but there was no immediate answer. The hallway remained dimly lit by the faint glow of a night lamp.

I stood up, careful not to make noise, and walked toward her room. When I peered in, I saw my daughter standing in the doorway, eyes wide and trembling. She whispered that she had heard strange noises in her room and couldn’t sleep. What I expected to be a nightmare turned into a tender moment of reassurance. I led her back to bed, tucked her in, and stayed with her until her breathing steadied.

Later, when we talked about it in the warm morning light, she said she simply needed comfort. In that quiet hour, we were reminded that sometimes children wake not because of fear, but because they need to feel safe and loved.
