BREAKING : Shooting Victims Named as Community Mourns After Deadly Attack

In the wake of a deadly mass shooting in Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia, Canadian authorities have identified several of the victims as the small community mourns the devastating losses. The attack began when an 18‑year‑old opened fire at Tumbler Ridge Secondary School, killing a teacher and multiple students before dying by suicide at the scene.

Among those killed at the school were five young students — Kylie Smith (12), Zoey Benoit (12), Abel Mwansa Jr. (12), Ticaria Lampert (12), and Ezekiel Schofield (13) — and assistant teacher Shannda Aviugana‑Durand (39), all remembered by loved ones for their bright spirits and dreams.

The suspected shooter also killed their mother and 11‑year‑old stepbrother at a nearby residence before carrying out the attack, bringing the total number of fatalities to around nine. Dozens of other students and staff were injured and are receiving medical care.

National and local leaders have joined the community in mourning, holding vigils to honor those lost and to support grieving families as they seek healing after one of Canada’s most tragic acts of violence in recent years.
