Award-winning actor Elizabeth Franz dead at 84

Broadway and TV star Elizabeth Franz has passed away at 84, her husband Christopher Pelham confirmed. The Tony Award-winning actress had been battling cancer and died at home in Woodbury, Connecticut, on November 4, following a “severe reaction” to treatment.

Franz was best known for her Tony-winning role as Linda Loman in the 1999 Broadway revival of Arthur Miller’s Death of a Salesman, a performance praised by Miller himself for its powerful depth. She was also nominated for Brighton Beach Memoirs in 1983 and Paul Osborn’s Morning’s at Seven in 2002. Other Broadway credits include The Cherry Orchard, Uncle Vanya, and The Miracle Worker.

On screen, Franz appeared in films such as Jacknife (1989), Sabrina (1995), and Christmas with the Kranks (2004), and starred in TV shows like Gilmore Girls, Roseanne, Sisters, Law & Order, Homeland, and Grey’s Anatomy. Her reprisal of Linda Loman in a 2000 TV adaptation earned her an Emmy Award.

Born in Akron, Ohio, in 1941, Franz graduated from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in 1962. She is survived by her husband and brother.
