A tragic accident on Sunday morning, July 16, along the CE-060 highway between Caririaçu and Juazeiro do Norte has plunged the Cariri region into mourning. An entire family — Hérida Nascimento da Silva, Sebastião Cícero Gomes, and their 3-year-old son, Miguel Nascimento Gomes — lost their lives in the crash.
The family from Várzea Alegre was traveling to Juazeiro do Norte so little Miguel could undergo a surgical procedure, a trip meant to bring healing but that ended in heartbreak. According to reports from TV Verdes Mares and confirmation by the Ceará Military Fire Department, the vehicle lost control around 7 a.m. and plunged into a stream near Sítio Piripiri.
The water, about five meters deep, hindered rescue efforts and led to the fatal outcome. Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the accident, which raises renewed concerns about the condition of the CE-060 highway and the safety of those who travel its route.
