Five words written on my car nearly ended my marriage

When my wife Emily and I left the doctor’s office, I was overjoyed — we were going to be parents, a dream we’d waited years to realize. But my happiness shattered the moment we reached our car.

Across the left side, in bold paint, were the words: “Hope She Was Worth It.” My heart pounded. Emily looked as shocked as I was, insisting she had nothing to do with it. That night, she stayed at her parents’ house while I tried — and failed — to sleep. Instead, I went outside to scrub off the paint.

That’s when I heard footsteps and a voice: “Don’t bother thanking me. You’re welcome.” It was my best friend, Adrian. He revealed that during our engagement party, Emily had slipped away for a while, raising suspicion among friends. He hoped the message would prompt her to confess.

When I confronted Emily, she admitted she’d once doubted our future but swore she hadn’t cheated. I chose to believe her — and not let one night destroy our life together.
