After years of hoping and trying, Elena and I were finally going to be parents. I imagined holding our baby for the first time, but when the day came, I was hit with shock.

One night, I caught my mother trying to scrub off our baby’s birthmark, convinced it was fake. That was my breaking point. I told her to accept our child or leave our lives.
To put the matter to rest, Elena suggested a DNA test. The results confirmed what I already knew — I was our daughter’s father. My family apologized, though not all sincerely.
