Brazilian singer and social media star Vanessa Rios has died at the age of 42 after a long and courageous battle with a rare and aggressive form of lung cancer. Born in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Brazil’s Greater Recife region, she began her musical career in 2010 with the group Encosta Neu. Her big break came in 2014, when she won a televised contest to become the lead singer of the band Kitara. Her powerful voice and charismatic stage presence quickly made her a beloved figure in the Brazilian forró music scene, leading to collaborations with major bands such as Forró do Muído and Capim com Mel.

Vanessa’s health struggles began in 2019, when she was diagnosed with a leg sarcoma, which she successfully overcame. In 2023, she was diagnosed with pulmonary synovial sarcoma, a rare cancer affecting the lungs. Despite her illness, she continued to perform, including a final concert in Florida in June 2025. She is survived by her husband Joe and daughter Larissa, leaving behind a legacy of music, strength, and inspiration.
