Before becoming a country music sensation, Jelly Roll — born Jason DeFord in Antioch, Tennessee — endured years of addiction, incarceration, and hardship. Behind bars, he discovered music, a force that gave him hope and purpose. Today, Jelly Roll is channeling his redemption into something greater: transforming his Tennessee farm into “The Field of Grace,” a mental health and addiction recovery center.
In an interview with American Songwriter, he shared that the center will provide therapy, community support, and creative outlets like songwriting and recording, helping people heal through music — just as he once did.
Jelly Roll, sober after battling addiction since age 14, says this mission comes from gratitude and atonement: “This land changed my life. Now it’s time it changes someone else’s.”
Supported by his wife, Bunnie XO, and inspired by fans, Jelly Roll’s new project has been hailed online as his “real legacy” — proof that redemption can become a source of healing for others.
