A Brazilian woman made headlines for marrying a homemade rag doll—and now, the unusual couple has a child together. Meirivone Rocha Moraes, 37, says it was love at first sight when her mother introduced her to Marcelo, the doll created after Meirivone complained about being single and having no one to dance with.
Their relationship quickly became serious. Meirivone and Marcelo held a wedding attended by roughly 250 guests, celebrating a romance she describes as passionate and fulfilling. She calls Marcelo “an excellent, faithful husband” who never argues and always understands her, adding that their married life is wonderful, even if he can be a bit lazy.
The couple’s story took another extraordinary turn with the birth of their baby, Marcelinho, on May 21, a moment Meirivone shared live with an audience of 200 people. Despite skepticism and criticism, she insists the relationship is real and meaningful, crediting her parents for instilling honesty and integrity. For Meirivone, what began as a whimsical solution to loneliness has become a full, unconventional family life—with all the joys and challenges that come with it.
