Tragic Accident Inside MRI Room Claims Life of Man.
A devastating accident unfolded inside a medical imaging center in Long Island, after a man wearing a heavy chain was fatally pulled into an MRI machine.
The incident happened at Nassau Open MRI.
61-year-old Keith McAllister had accompanied his wife, Adrienne Jones-McAllister, to a medical facility for a knee scan. According to reports, during the procedure, Adrienne asked the technician to call her husband in to help her off the table.
Keith entered the MRI room wearing a 20-pound metal chain. Something he typically used for weight training.
The powerful magnetic force of the MRI instantly reacted to the metal, pulling him violently towards the machine.
Adrienne, still on the scan table, recalled the horrifying moment: “As soon as he got close to me, the machine pulled him in like a magnet. He hit it so hard.” She desperately pleaded with the technician to stop the machine and call for help. “I was screaming, crying, begging them to shut it off,” she told News 12 Long Island. “He went limp in my arms.”
The technician reportedly attempted to help pull Keith away, but the force of the machine made it impossible. Adrienne said Keith waved at her one last time before collapsing. He suffered multiple heart attacks after being freed from the equipment and sadly passed away the next day.
MRI machines operate using incredibly strong magnetic fields powerful enough to move heavy metal objects across a room.
The National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering warns that these machines can be dangerous if safety protocols aren’t followed.
This tragic incident highlights the critical importance of strict precautions around MRI equipment even for visitors.
