The racing community is mourning the loss of veteran driver Robbie Brewer, 53, who died after a crash at Bowman Gray Stadium on Saturday night. According to FloRacing, Brewer suffered a heart attack while competing in the Sportsman division, causing his car to veer into the outside wall before striking the front-straightaway wall nearly head-on.
The incident occurred with four laps remaining in the first of two 20-lap features, with Brewer running in fourth place at the time.
A beloved figure at Bowman Gray for nearly 40 years, Brewer had spent 35 of those seasons behind the wheel. Born and raised in North Carolina, he began racing in his late teens and became known for his skill, dedication, and sportsmanship.
Respected by drivers, fans, and track staff, Brewer’s friendly personality made him a favorite in the community. Off the track, he was deeply devoted to his family, crediting them for his racing success.
