An adviser to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., cardiologist Aseem Malhotra, has suggested that Donald Trump’s alleged signs of “dementia” and visible swelling in his ankles may actually be caused by medication side effects rather than cognitive decline.
Malhotra believes that Trump’s use of cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as statins, along with low-dose aspirin, could explain symptoms like fatigue, brain fog, and memory lapses—issues often linked to aging or dementia. He also noted that Trump reportedly has chronic venous insufficiency, a vascular condition common in older adults that causes leg swelling but is unrelated to brain health.
According to Malhotra, discontinuing certain medications might reverse these symptoms “within weeks.” However, his claims have been criticized by many in the medical community, who call them misleading and unsupported by evidence.
Despite the speculation, Trump’s team maintains that he remains active, alert, and fully engaged in his work, with no changes to his health routine or daily responsibilities.
