During the production of the 2017 film American Made, a tragic aviation accident highlighted the real dangers behind high-risk filmmaking. In September 2015, a twin-engine Aerostar aircraft used for aerial filming crashed in Colombia while transporting three experienced pilots. The accident claimed the lives of two crew members instantly, while the third survived with severe, life-altering injuries.
Although all pilots were highly trained, questions quickly emerged about the circumstances surrounding the flight. Reports suggested the aircraft may have been overloaded and that concerns about weather conditions and safety had been raised before takeoff. Despite these warnings, the flight reportedly proceeded under tight production pressure and demanding schedules.
