Should there be a limit on who can wear a swimsuit? Most would say “absolutely not!” except for my daughter-in-law, Janice, who seems to think otherwise.
After a refreshing trip to Miami Beach with my husband, Donald, I felt rejuvenated and loved. One day I decided to wear a black two-piece bikini, and Donald kept telling me how great I looked. Even a little girl captured the sweet moment with a photo, which I later shared on Facebook.
But then came Janice’s hurtful comment:
“Seriously? How can she even think about showing her WRINKLED body in a swimsuit? She looks AWFUL!”
That broke my heart.
Instead of ignoring it, I decided to do something about it. I suggested a family barbecue. When Janice finally arrived, I took the opportunity to show the photo and explain that it represented love that grows with age. I also revealed her cruel comment in front of everyone, highlighting the importance of kindness and reminding everyone that we all get older.

After that, Janice apologized and acknowledged her mistake. Confronting ageism within one’s own family can be difficult, but wrinkles and gray hair are signs of a life well-lived.
What do you think?
