A response as simple as “yes” during an unexpected call may be enough for them to capture your voice and use it for fraudulent purposes.
This tactic relies on natural reactions. Scammers ask questions designed to make you say short, clear words like “hello” or “yes.” Even just a few seconds of audio can be processed to generate a synthetic version of your voice that sounds convincing and familiar.
With this cloned voice, criminals may try to bypass voice verification systems used by banks or other services. They might also impersonate you when calling family members or friends, staging fake emergencies to request money or sensitive information.
To reduce the risk, avoid giving direct affirmations during suspicious calls. Let unknown numbers go to voicemail, verify the caller’s identity through other means, and never share personal data or passwords over the phone.
