At the peak of her career, Lyn May, the stunning Chinese-Mexican showgirl who starred in nearly 100 films and captivated audiences—including presidents—experienced a life-changing event. In the early 1990s, a routine Botox session went tragically wrong, altering her appearance in unexpected ways.
Born Lilia Guadalupe Mendiola Mayares in 1952 in Acapulco, Mexico, Lyn May comes from Chinese heritage. From a young age, she helped support her family, selling trinkets to visitors and later working as a waitress. During this job, she met her first true love, an American sailor thirty years her senior. They had two daughters, but the marriage ended in divorce after five years due to abuse.
Afterward, Lyn returned to Acapulco and began dancing. Though minimally trained, her striking presence and miniskirt performances drew attention. Her breakthrough came with appearances on the popular TV show Siempre en Domingo, making her a household name across Latin America.
Her growing fame caught the eye of Enrique Lombardini, owner of Teatro Esperanza Iris. Initially hesitant to perform fully in burlesque, Lyn’s allure and talent eventually won over audiences, establishing her as a legendary figure in Mexican entertainment.
